    BNJRT MISSION STATEMENT:

Providing a positive experience for kids who want to have fun while learning to ski fast. We believe Nordic skiing is a lifelong sport that promotes a well-rounded physical fitness base. Team members establish friendships with kids of different ages, from different schools and from various communities. These friendships play a positive role in their social development and add to the primary focus of having fun while skiing.

ABOUT BOULDER NORDIC JUNIOR RACING TEAM:

BNJRT is an XC ski team for 8-19 year old athletes. We offer programming year round to develop great athletes, people, and skiers! We have skiers from many different area schools.

Our primary season is the winter. In winter we ski after school at Eldora. A season pass is required to ski with the team. We ski from 4:30-5:45pm from opening day (hopefully Dec 1st) until Jan 15th, and 4:30-6:00 from Jan 15th to closing day (or April 1st). Saturdays we typically ski from 9am until 11am.

We offer three tiers of training for our athletes.  Skiers are grouped by ability and instructed by a coach at each session. We will also travel to races around the state, but racing is not required, and even on race weekends there will be a coach lead practice at Eldora for athletes opting not to race. For our younger skiers, transportation to Eldora is with parents who often arrange carpools with the driver getting to go for an evening ski!

To prepare for the winter season, we do dryland training in the fall, older athletes Mon-Thurs after school with some weekends too. Younger athletes train Tues and Thurs in the fall. Locations vary and activities include rollerskiing (optional for younger skiers), running, ski imitation drills, strength, and games.

We also do dryland training all summer for an additional fee.

For skiers younger than 8, we highly recommend the Eldora Trek Nordic Program. Many of our skiers got their starts here.

    PHILOSOPHY:

Primary focus: The team has been steadily evolving with a few concepts remaining constant. The main goal of the Boulder Nordic Juniors is to have fun while learning to ski fast on Nordic skis. We believe Nordic skiing is a lifelong sport that promotes a well-rounded physical fitness base.  Team members establish friendships with kids of different ages, from different schools and from various communities. These friendships play a positive role in their social development and add to the primary focus of having fun while skiing.  Skiers learn both skate and classical Nordic skiing techniques. Positive attitude and sportsmanship are stressed. Some team members seek high-level competition while others take a recreational approach to the sport and do not compete in races. Many skiers have been on the team for five or more years and, over the last two decades, many skiers from our team have competed at the national level. Regardless of their level of competition, kids have had a lot of fun and have developed healthy, life-long skiing skills and an appreciation of the beautiful mountain outdoors. Team members are encouraged to learn to be responsible for themselves in terms of keeping track of all their gear, having appropriate clothing, water, and snacks and learning to maintain their own skis.
